Hallelujah – Praise Ye the Lord

Devotions for The Head, the Heart, and the Home

Psalm 111:10

Read: Psalm 111 begins and ends with praise. The life of every Christian and the Church should be this way as well. All of life is to be a “Hallelujah” to the Lord. Doctrinally we know that everything in our life is to be to the praise of God, but practically we often have a hard time living it out.  So, how can we live a life that is a continual “Hallelujah” to the Lord.  As we look at Psalm 111:10 we find our answer to live a life that glorifies the name of Jesus in everything we do.

(1) Fear of the Lord: Having a faithful  and fearful reverence of our God plants roots in our heart that can’t help but bear the fruit seen in the rest of the verse. Praise begins and ends with a right view of the Lord. (2) Wisdom: Wisdom is the first fruit of fearing the Lord. It is given by God for our good and His glory. Wise living is worshipful living. (3) Works: Those that have “a good understanding” will willingly and worshipfully obey the Lord in all that their hands find to do. Our worship is our greatest work but it is also the motivation of any work that we do for God. Working for self is self-worship but working out of a “Hallelujah” is a work of worship to the Lord.

A life lived this way will fulfill the last phrase of the verse, “his praise endureth forever”. Our life should continually praise the Lord. He alone is worthy. Revering God and rejoicing go hand in hand. As we learn to revere God we can’t help but rejoice. Those that rejoice find themselves revived and renewed by the Lord Himself. Hallelujah!

Reflect: Read Psalm 111 and discuss/write down all of the reasons you can see that we should praise the Lord. Is your life “Hallelujah”?

Rest: Rest your head, heart and home in the worship of God almighty. Revering the Lord leads to resting in the Lord.

Respond: Take time each today and throughout your week to praise God for His goodness and to ask of Him the fruit that comes with a life of worship. Find ways moment by moment to give God the glory that He deserves.
