There upon Mount Calvary on a rugged tree
Hung the spotless Lamb of God dying there for me
As I gazed upon Him and heard His cries of pain
I knew that I was guilty and hung my head in shame
With thoughts of my transgressions I let out a mournful sigh
But then I heard the Lamb of God ring out a dying cry
“It is finished! Paid in full!” the Lamb’s work now is done
The battle is now over because the Lamb has overcome
With one last hopeful look, I stared into His face
But no longer did I see my sin, I only saw His grace
They placed His broken body down into a grave
But then He resurrected on that third and glorious day
He broke the chains of sin and death to set the captives free
Christ died and rose for sinners, including sinful me
Now ascended into Heaven on His throne on high
He ever intercedes for me and bids me to draw nigh
Soon He’ll call His Bride to join Him in glory up above
And we shall live forever there in the light of holy love
By faith I look to Calvary to see the blood-stained tree
And now, both wonder and rejoice in all He did for me
