Devotions for The Head, the Heart, and the Home
Romans 6:11
Read: An older man who was hard pressed for money went digging through his home to find any loose change he might have to get him through the next week. After finding a few coins, a crumpled up
dollar bill, a few coat buttons, the man made a discovery. He found a card to a local bank with his name and account number that he had forgotten about. The man curiously went to the bank and walked up to the nearest teller fully expecting it to be some mistake. The bank teller instantly found his account and the man asked, “Do you reckon it has anything in it?” Quietly the teller responds, “Sir, I reckon you have the most money in one account I’ve ever seen.” Believer, what do you reckon you have in your spiritual bank account? Many days you probably feel like you are pinching spiritual pennies but read Rom. 6:11 again. Now read it slowly. Do you feel rich yet? In the bank account of every believer there is a wealth of truth that is meant to be a practical theology that helps us to live out our position in Christ and a preventative theology that keeps us from placing ourselves
under the rule of sin which no longer reigns in our life. In this verse, the usage of “reckon” means to continuously count on the truth of our position in Christ that has been laid out before us. Reckon here is a command. You must reckon (constantly count as a fact by faith) that you are dead to sin but alive through Jesus Christ. Jesus has brought us life from death. Every believer can rest assured that they have died, been buried, and now risen with, in, for, and by Jesus Christ our Lord. I reckon that we are much more spiritually wealthy than we realize in Christ. Let your position in Christ be your power against the world, the flesh, and the devil.
Reflect: Write down or discuss what it means to be dead and yet alive in Christ. Read Rom. 6; Gal. 2:20; Col. 2-3
Rest: Rest your head, heart and home in your reckoned position in Christ
Respond: Each moment by faith draw from and depend upon the endless spiritual account of your position in Christ.
